Ministries

Children, youth, and their families

There are many faith formation opportunities for children and youth at Waterford. Worship services are planned to be meaningful to all ages as we encounter God by worshiping together. Children up to age two are invited to be in the staffed nursery during worship and Sunday school. There are age-level Sunday school classes for children and youth from ages two through high school.

During the school year, Venture Club (3rd-5th grade) and Junior MYF (6th-8th) meet twice each month, typically on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month. Mennonite Youth Fellowship (9th-12th) meets each Wednesday throughout the year. Each of these groups seeks to help students become friends with God, God’s people, and God’s world through a mixture of worship, Bible study, service opportunities, and social activities. Students in middle and high school have opportunity to take part in extended faith formation activities, including church-wide conventions, winter and summer retreats, service trips, and baptism exploration.

Recognizing parents and caregivers as the primary faith formers of their children, we seek to encourage spiritual growth by finding ways to serve together. We cultivate an intergenerational ethos in the congregation by encouraging all ages to be spiritual grandparents, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, and cousins of each other. Ministries that recognize the milestones in a child’s development are just one way that we seek to resource parents and caregivers in the faith formation of both themselves and their families.

Adults

We welcome adults of all ages (18 to senior adults) to participate in learning, study, service and social activities at Waterford. Please ask a member of the pastoral team or a ministry team member, if you would like more information.

College students and young adults are welcomed at WMC.

Young adult ministry includes a Sunday School class geared to this age group (although welcome in any class), Sunday noon meals, transportation for GC students and planned social events. Young adults are welcomed and encouraged to use their gifts in worship and service at WMC.

Sunday School Classes

Adult Sunday School Classes during the Nurture hour-all classes welcome new attenders and visitors. Most, but not all, classes are grouped by age and also gather outside of Sunday morning for social and service activities. Usually, an elective study is also offered, and open to anyone. This could be a specific topic or book study, and is listed in the bulletin with other classes. Summer electives for all adults are planned occasionally. Summer classes may vary in structure and study. See the welcome center for map of class locations and current topics of study.

Senior Adults

The Senior Adult Ministry Team helps senior adults of WMC experience the energizing and healing presence of Christ as they share with the congregation and community, as they challenge each other to grow in faith and as the community ministers to their needs and receives the blessing of their gift.
